When we began work on this project, this cafeteria was using about 8.5 kw of power with metal halides. They were spaced very far apart and left the area with an average light level of 9 FC, below the acceptable level. We came back with fluorescent and not only dropped the energy use down to a2.8kw, that’s a third of what it was, but with our new design the light level was about 48FC! You can see from this photograph, that this room is full of clean light. So the school had a dark wasted space that can now be used for many more activities. While we strive to save energy and supply appropriate light levels, we also take into account how a room feels. Lighting affects an individual’s mood, work ethic, and in some cases, ability.
